Sandwiched between Akebono Station to the north and Yotsuya-sanchome Station to the south, the district of Arakicho was once a bustling red-light district. Today, "Chiso Kondo" can be found there, on a street full of atmosphere and lined with restaurants. Mr. Akihiro Kondo, of the popular restaurant "Washoku Kondo," for which reservations were unavailable, seized the opportunity to open a new shop in a location not far from "Washoku Kondo" with the goal of creating a venue to provide even more guests with hospitality, satisfaction and the opportunity to enjoy his dishes.
"Washoku Kondo," which he opened after honing his skills at the venerable "Kanetanaka" in Shimbashi, instantly became a popular destination. Like "Washoku Kondo", "Chiso Kondo" offers monthly course meals prepared using generous amounts of carefully-selected seasonal ingredients from all over Japan, including seasonal choices such as bamboo shoots in the spring, ayu and eel in the summer and matsutake mushrooms in the autumn. The ingredients, from Hida Wagyu Beef from Mr. Kondo's home prefecture of Gifu to choice Shizuoka wasabi, free-range fertile eggs and Wakayama Japanese pepper, are carefully chosen by Mr. Kondo himself. There are always at least 10 varieties of Japanese sake available, always including Gifu Prefecture's Reisen in addition to others such as Kokuryu from Fukui Prefecture. The wine cellar holds a selection of French Burgundy, Italian and other wine, selected according to the dish and guests' preferences. Even lunch, which is not served at "Washoku Kondo," is available at "Chiso Kondo" for guests to enjoy.
The venue includes counter seating for eight as well as private-room seating, all of which is designed to allow guests to enter and dine in complete privacy from one another. Accommodating everything from lunch dates at the counter to secluded dining in the private rooms, and even allowing for the joining together of rooms to seat parties of up to 14, it is excellent for receptions and other such events and even for parties dining with infants and young children. Guests are invited to enjoy an incredibly satisfying gourmet experience in this relaxed, sophisticated space.
