Located just 10-minutes on foot from Naka-Meguro Station, "Sushi Tsukiuda" is tucked away like a hideout in a quiet residential area. Here, Proprietor Mitsuhiko Tsukiuda has gone into business for himself after 25 years of training. He is a sushi artisan who carries on Japanese cultural tradition while also incorporating modern culture in taking on the challenge of creating new sushi.
Each of Mr. Tsukiuda's sushi dishes is made with true gratitude toward the cycle of the seasons that created the ingredients, the bounty of the ocean and environment all the people involved in each step of its creation, from fishermen to wholesalers. His commitment and attention to unifying all elements of the experience, from the effort and care put into each dish to the condition of the toppings and their maturity, temperature and visual appeal, as well as the temperature, flavor and volume of the vinegared rice as it dissolves in the mouth, are born from a mission to leave guests with smiles on their faces. Approximately 10 varieties of Japanese sake, carefully selected by the owner from all over Japan, are available for pairing.
Designed to impart a rejuvenating feel, the interior of the shop includes only seating for eight at the tatami-covered counter and a separate room with a sunken-heater table seating four. From the traditional papered entryway to the counter of Japanese cypress and the wooden cutting boards, every corner of the shop features the use of materials produced in Japan, and the space, with its pure Japanese style and notes of wood, provides guests a dignified atmosphere in which to enjoy their sushi experience. Suitable for occasions such as dates and parties, one of the charms of "Sushi Tsukiuda" is how distinctly accessible and accommodating it is for groups of friends and even for single female diners. Whether for ordinary dining occasions or as a reward to oneself for a job well done, guests are invited to let this sushi, expertly made with long-honed skill, put a smile on their faces.
