8-minute walk from Kamakura Station, when you leave the bustle of the tourist spots, a simple and chic restaurant appears. “Arashida” is a Spanish restaurant and wine restaurant. Owner-chef Norikazu Arashida opened this restaurant in October 2010 in Kamakura, next Zushi.
Owner-chef Arashita learned the basics of cooking at restaurants throughout Japan, including "Sel et Poivre" in Shiga. When he visited the Basque region of Spain, he encountered "the most delicious in one's life" cuisine at the long-established 2-star restaurant “Zuberoa”, and he took this opportunity to learn classic Spanish cuisine under Mr. Hilario of “Zuberoa”. After that, he devoted himself to studying at starred restaurants all over Spain, such as “Azurmendi” and “Casa Marcial”.
Succeeding to the philosophy of his master Mr. Hilario, who valued the taste of food, owner-chef Arashita puts taste first. Arranging, performing, and cooking the food without any unnecessary attention to detail is what owner-chef Arashita does. "Do only what is really necessary" says owner-chef Arashita, whose cooking is supported by his experience and sense of mastery in Spain, on theories of texture and food compatibility. However, it does not stick to the framework of Spanish cuisine, he creates a flavor that goes beyond the fixed concept as a dish made by a Japanese chef using Japanese ingredients.
Specialty is "pitu", a traditional dish from the Asturias region of Spain. The stewed chicken with a rich and burnt onion sauce is one of the specialties of owner-chef Arashita, who says that with the time and effort, only few local people would make it. The traditional dessert, "arroz con leche" is rice simmered in milk for 3 hours. The flavor and richness accentuates it, and the chewy texture is characteristic. The wine is carefully selected by the owner-chef Arashita, who is also a sommelier.
There are 6 counter seats and 12 tables in the restaurant. The calm wood-style interior has a dignified and warm feeling, and is recommended for various situations such as dining with family and friends, dating, and hospitality for overseas guests. After a relaxing trip to Kamakura, please enjoy owner-chef Arashita's original refined Spanish cuisine.
