=========================

A 5 to 6-minute walk from the nearest station, Oniku Karyu is located in a quiet corner of Kobuna-cho, Nihonbashi. It is a peculiar Japanese restaurant that offers a course of banquet dishes centered around meat and has received world gourmet guide award.

As restaurant owner Haruka Katayanagi was building his skills as a chef, he became enamored with Kuroge Wagyu, and began to think of ways to further draw out its flavor even more with Japanese cuisine techniques. He opened Wagyu Meisai Zen in 2006 – which will become the predecessor of Oniku Karyu – and became known as a place to enjoy top quality black wagyu as part of a meat-centered Japanese cuisine. Following a complete renovation in 2016, the restaurant name was changed to Oniku Karyu. Improving the quality of food and service, the restaurant earned award from world gourmet guide.

Oniku Karyu uses only black wagyu ranked A4 and A5. Small quantities of the best portions of the best quality are chosen and purchased from all over the country, matured in the restaurant and served at the best timing. A banquet style course, consisting of 10 dishes, is offered: beef is used in everything from the appetizer to the last dish. The specialty is Hokkaido’s sea urchin roll, which is beef wrapped in a sea urchin. Also on the menu are dishes like beef shank stew, shabu-shabu, sukiyaki, as well as other beef dishes to enjoy to your heart’s content. The alcohol offered is selected to bring out the flavor of the menu at the restaurant, and ranges from wine to Japanese sake and shochu.

Inside, the restaurant is divided into 4 counter seats and table seats for 4 to 8 people. Displayed on the wall is a poem, “Yanagiwamidori Hanawakurenai Shinmenmoku”, by poet Sotouba, from China’s Song Dynasty, from which the name of the restaurant was derived. You can sit and admire the techniques of the chef from a counter seat, or you can enjoy chatting with your friends at one of the semi-secluded table seats. From business entertainment, meeting up with friends and dates, Karyu is available for various situations. Overseas guests will be sure to enjoy having the world famous wagyu and Japanese cuisine at the same time.
