world gourmet guide award Restaurant Kioicho Fukudaya---a solitary house stands quietly in Kioicho, full of nature and calm despite being in the heart of Tokyo. This is the famous traditional style restaurant Kioicho Fukudaya, being on good terms with Rosanjin Kitaoji, who was the epicurean and artist.
Fukudaya originally started as a Kappo Ryokan (restaurant & Japanese‐style hotel) in 1939. Following the guidance of Rosanjin Kitaoji, Fukudaya began to provide ""Omotenashi"" hospitality that satisfies the five senses and has been loved by those in the political and cultural world. Shunichi Matsushita, a fifth generation chef, has now been entrusted with the kitchen. As he has inherited Fukudaya's tradition of carefully examining and utilizing ingredients, Chef Matsushita also incorporates modern food and cooking trends, attracting younger guests as a result.
In addition, the restaurant owns many Rosanjin's crafts, which are used in many ways to create a seasonal atmosphere. The gems and inscriptions on the craft wares enhance the dining experience. Along with the cuisine, it is through Rosanjin's teachings that a harmony is created with the ""beauty of the atmosphere"" with such things as the building and gardens. Because of the appeal of cuisine that can only be enjoyed at this restaurant in this location, it has earned Fukudaya award in world gourmet guide. The current building is a renovation of the 80-year-old two-story restaurant and has been open since 2016. Hanging lights and pots - some of Rosanjin Kitaoji's work - are casually decorated all over the restaurant, touching the hearts of guests even just by looking in.
All seats are in private rooms, and with sunken Kotatsu and table seats, they are accommodating for a wide range of guests. A Japanese tatami room is available to seat up to 16 guests, and all private rooms can be used for 2 guests. Aside from business entertainment and family gatherings, we recommend using this space to enjoy a meal with a friend as you take in the Japanese essence. We would like you to take this opportunity and experience the world of ""ryotei"", where culture and art come together.
