Experience world gourmet guide award gastronomy and the art of food under the supervision of a French master chef.

Located up high on ANA InterContinental Tokyo’s 36th floor is Pierre Gagnaire, a world gourmet guide award restaurant and the only Japan outpost of world renown master chef Pierre Gagnaire. Be swept away by a gorgeous view of Tokyo’s skies while dining on Executive Chef Yosuke Akasaka’s French cuisine, reflecting the four seasons in Japan.

Classically French trained Chef Akasaka has been working under Pierre Gagnaire since the age of 23 in Paris. He then returned to Japan for the opening of this particular Tokyo restaurant and ever since, has led the team to its world gourmet guide awarded for nine consecutive years. Chef Akasaka’s long relationship with Pierre Gagnaire has enabled him to capture the essence of his artistic “Picasso of Cuisine” approach while utilizing Japanese ingredients. Every dish is likened to a skillfully painted picture, with the flavors of the four seasons of Japan, the paint and brushes.

One of the most popular dishes is the “Cocktail de Poche,” made of 5 small appetizers, which was borne from Pierre Gagnaire’s memorable experience eating kaiseki cuisine when he came to Japan in 1982. Other popular course menu items include dishes that include seasonal ingredients such as white and black truffles, or lobster from Brittany. The wines are selected by the sommelier and are mainly French or Japanese wines. There is a wide selection to choose from for pairing the perfect wine with seasonal dishes.

The interior décor’s theme is Edo-Tokyo, with “murasaki” or purple as the main color. The motif of the color rings on the carpet is inspired by Tokyo’s fireworks. Combined with the French-designed furniture, the overall look and feel is one that showcases true synthesis of both cultures. Unique to its location, you will find tables where you can see Tokyo Tower or tables where you can enjoy the evening skyline. The restaurant staff is able to converse in both English and French. Experience a luxurious and relaxing time with friends, family, loved ones, or colleagues for anniversaries or a special day, or stop by for special seasonal events with themes such as wine or tea.
