A five-minute walk from Tenjinbashisuji-rokuchome Station on the Osaka Metro’s Senri Line, this Japanese restaurant is located in a tranquil residential area; the sign is a small light with the name of the Higashichaya Nakamura written on it.
Higashichaya Nakamura was opened in 2019 under chef Manabu Nakamura. Hailing from Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, he became independent after training in Ryoriya Uemura in Kobe and Oimatsu Kitagawa in Osaka.
Named after the Higashichaya teahouse district in Kanazawa, this area, with its beautiful decorations and stone paved streets, conveys the chef's feelings for his hometown.
Ingredients from Kanazawa account for 90% of the restaurant’s offerings; fresh seafood such as cockles, abalone, and oysters are delivered to the kitchen every day from acquaintances of the chef who run a fish store in Kanazawa, as well as trusted sources in his hometown.
As with the best chefs, Nakamura has absolute confidence in the quality of his ingredients, striving to pass on as much goodness and flavour to guests as possible. Even for a simple dashi, Rishiri kelp, bonito flakes, and tuna flakes from Kafuka are used lavishly.
The restaurant always offers around 20 varieties of drinks with Japanese sakes chosen to pair with Chef Nakamura’s elegant dishes. Champagne and white wines are available by the bottle and glass; meanwhile, red wine is available by the bottle. For the full experience, drink pairings are also available upon request.
Glassware aficionados are well-looked after, with a wide selection of antique dinnerware and sake cups available, such as Baccarat.
The restaurant has 9 seats at its counter, and a private room that seats up to 6 guests. As each room is separate, guests can enter and leave the private room independently, ensuring optimal privacy. Popular with couples, the restaurant is also a favourite with gourmands, who sit at the counter to enjoy the essence of Nakamura’s dishes.
