A restaurant just a two-minute walk from Kyoto Station invites you to an extraordinary adventure of modern and playful kappo cuisine

A two-minute walk from the Karasuma central exit of JR Kyoto Station takes you to THE THOUSAND KYOTO, a hotel set in the best location for walking around the historical city. Once you enter the hotel through the entrance on Higashi-notoin Street, you will find yourself in a spacious lobby with an extremely high ceiling and a grand stone staircase, which looks striking in the sunlight from the front wall of windows. Inspired by the stairs of temples and shrines, this grand staircase leads to the Japanese restaurant KIZAHASHI on the second floor. The name “KIZAHASHI,” which means “staircase” in Japanese, is derived from this iconic staircase.

The kappo counter is helmed by dedicated Chef Tsukasa Miyashita, who was born in Mie Prefecture in 1985 and honed his culinary skills while working at Gion Maruyama for six years and at Gion Sasaki for ten years before he took up his current position as Chef at KIZAHASHI in 2021. Chef Miyashita explores innovative kappo cuisine by offering appetizers, sashimi, and grilled meat or fish using different ingredients and cooking methods depending on the preference of the guest rather than offering a fixed-course menu. The ingredients are delivered in their best condition from around Japan, such as helmet crab from Hokkaido and Kyoto vegetables.
The drink menu curated by Chef-Sommelier Wataru Iwata, a rising star of the wine world who has won various sommelier competitions inside and outside of Japan, offers a variety of options that reflect his extensive knowledge and experience, including not only wines but also Japanese sake to be served with food and brandies and other digestifs. Moreover, with a hotel staff capable of providing excellent service, the restaurant offers guests exceptional experiences.

The interior is modern with wood and stone accents that create straight lines. The restaurant has a main dining room with tables and a counter seating up to eight guests, three private rooms (one has up to twelve seats, and the other two have six seats each), and a semi-private room. At the counter with a charcoal grill behind it, guests can sit and watch Chef Miyashita prepare dishes right in front of them. The windows behind the counter provide a view of the green garden outside, making the restaurant the perfect place for small friend-and-family gatherings.
The tranquility in the garden outside and the smell of charcoal and enthusiasm behind the counter make a striking contrast. Please enjoy this dynamic contrast and the luxurious experience offered at KIZAHASHI, just a two-minute walk from Kyoto Station.
